I honestly didn't know I was growing cucumbers! I did an experiment and planted seeds on eggshells. I completely forgot I had planted cucumber seeds. I planted the seeds on May 18 and five days later a bulb sprouted!
A day after it sprouted the stem suddenly shot out from the soil!
I decided to transfer the seedling to a coco peat pot to provide more stability to the stem. It looked like this during lunch time.
By 4 in the afternoon on the same day, it looked quite different already.
Two days after, on May 26 the seedling was looking a bit grown up! A tiny bulb suddenly sprouted in one of the pots.
I originally thought it was mustasa. On May 27 the seedling grew a third leaf that looked so different. I started to question myself then on what kind of seed I planted. My aunt told me it was cucumber.
By May 30 the leaves were a bit bigger and Google Lens confirmed that it was indeed cucumber.
The next day, May 31, a new set of leaves started to come out. The tiny bulb is also growing steadily.
By June 3 the leaves looked like it was lightening so I thought maybe it's time to move them to a proper pot so they can get more nutrients.
Transferred the coco peat pots to a proper huge pot. I put a hole at the bottom of the coco pot to allow the roots to drill down more when they grow longer.
The seedlings experienced a bit of transplant shock even though I put them on the shade for a few days. I gave them some rice wash and they started to perk up after that. They were back on track by June 9.
And here they are on June 12. I bet the big leaf may be as big as my hand in two weeks. The other pot is lagging a bit in growth because there's two of them. I tried to separate them when I moved them to the pot, but the stems had stuck to the eggshell and they would break if I tried to separate them. I didn't want to risk them dying so I kept them together.
This is my first time growing cucumber! I learned that it's important to water it well and never let the soil run dry. I give it rice wash twice a week now and I had sprinkled some ground egg shells on the soil. I know that it'll need support when it grows a bit more. I need to learn more how to take care of Mr. Cucumber.
Comment below if you have any tips on how I could take care of Mr. Cucumber.
