Plantdemic Week 18: Harvesting Bell Peppers

It was a struggle to successfully grow bell peppers. During our first season of planting we were able to sprout a lot of bell pepper seeds. None survived because of pests. We finally successfully grew one during the second season. It's been hard also since we had to battle many aphids. Argh!

We were so relieved when the plant started to produce flowers. To help it follow through we used a small paintbrush to hand pollinate it. Soon enough it started to form into fruit. We had to monitor the plant for aphids. To keep them at bay we'd spray it with Thieves soap with water. We would also physically remove aphids using a cotton bud with some alcohol.

Finally decided to harvest the bell pepper when it turned red. We learned belatedly that one should harvest the first fruit when it reaches 2 inches in size. We share other learnings in this video -

Happy planting friends!
