Plantdemic Week 12 Update: Battling Aphids! Grrrrr!

Aphids everywhere! We usually spray our plants once a week with soapy water to keep the aphids at bay. Since they were kept at bay we skipped a week and was horribly surprised to find them back in full force. They even plagued the mustasa which they used to ignore!

So the past few days we've upped our game to battle the aphids. Aside from spraying with soap water we have also been removing the aphids using cotton buds with alcohol. We also squirted the soil with diluted hydrogen peroxide to hopefully kill any eggs/larvae that's hanging around. It will also probably be useful to put some baking soda to kill off the ants (they're known to carry the aphids up the stem). It's going to be a challenging week!

The sunflowers are all in decline right now. We're waiting for the back of the flower to turn yellow so we can start harvesting the seeds. After harvesting the seeds we'll cut off the flower to signal the plant to produce new flowers. Crossing our fingers it will work!

The mustasa plants, half are okay, half are being plagued by aphids. This is what we're dealing with right now. Until we get that under control we won't be able to cook any mustasa dishes!

The bell pepper has started to flower! We cleaned up the aphids to make sure it doesn't affect the flowers. We're trying to hand pollinate the flower to make sure it develops to fruits.

The tomato look like it's starting to produce new flowers. We'll make sure to patiently hand pollinate it so it will produce fruits.

The dill is as bushy as ever! Haha.
