We lost the battle to the aphids and had to remove the sunflowers and mustasa. Boo! It got so unruly, so we made the decision to remove the most affected plants to save the bell pepper and tomato. It wasn't a pretty sight to see and it was sad to see the mustasa and sunflowers riddled with aphids. We tried using neem oil, but they were just too many.
Sweetie did the hard work of pulling out the plants. He also emptied the pots of the soil and we're looking for the best way to dispose of it. So now we only have Belle the Bell Pepper, Tom the Tomato and Dilly Dally the Dill. Oh we also still have the spring onions from season 1.
Belle the Bell Pepper
To clear out the aphids that settled in odd crevices of Belle the Bell Pepper, we used ear buds dipped in alcohol to remove them. The aphids were effectively wiped away. It removed the stress the plant was going through and we noticed it suddenly matured and the leaves grew bigger. Belle has started to produce some peppers and it's growing bigger everyday.
Tom the Tomato
We also had to clear out the aphids from Tom the Tomato. Used the same method as Belle. The good news is it's growing 7 fruits! We're excited to see it develop since it's a different variety from the first one we planted during season 1. We used the seeds that the National Parks of Singapore sent via mail. We hope it would be bigger than what we got last season.
Dilly Dally the Dill
Dilly Dally the Dill has been unaffected by the aphids rampage and is looking more busy everyday. We still haven't gotten around to harvesting some. We welcome suggestions for recipes that need dill!
