The best time to re-pot your sunflower plants is when they have at least five leaves. We recently re-potted five stems of sunflower plants. Only three out of the five survived. We noticed during the process that three had bigger leaves and longer roots. The other two were smaller and had shorter roots. They were probably not yet ready to be re-potted even though they each had more than five leaves.

A week later, the three have settled nicely in their new pots. They have also grown a couple of inches.
